Defending Our Second
Protecting our constitutional rights is not just the responsibility of our federal elected officials. Our state leaders also have an obligation to protect the Constitution. As the mother-in-law of an active duty Army Captain and mother of a physician’s assistant at Womack Army Medical Center, I have seen firsthand the sacrifice our military personnel make to ensure these freedoms. Protecting them is one of our most solemn responsibilities as elected officials.
That starts with repealing the SAFE Act. Governor Cuomo blatantly violated the Constitutional when he pushed this legislation and stripped us of our 2nd Amendment rights. This law must go and it will be a top priority once I’m elected to the State Senate.
As a member of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors and proud gun owner, I have stood up for our Second Amendment rights. As a proud member of SCOPE, I have supported legislation permitting rifle hunting in Ontario County.
But most importantly, I led the fight in the Town of Canandaigua to adopt a resolution opposing Governor Cuomo’s disastrous SAFE Act and stood up for the rights of our citizens. Shortly after the SAFE Act was enacted, I wrote, introduced and passed a Town resolution calling on the Governor and State Legislature to repeal this law.
The SAFE Act was the product of a secretive, undemocratic process that was specifically designed to usurp the public’s right-to-know. That’s wrong and it endemic of what’s wrong with our state government in Albany.
